VIRTUAL REALITY

The Salton Sea, California’s largest lake, has an interesting history and an uncertain future. This lake is at a dangerous turning point that could create one of the state’s largest environmental disasters. Using 360 video, drones and computer graphics, this 7-part immersive series explores the different stories and communities that surround the Sea. "California's Dying Sea" is a partnership between Gannett’s The Desert Sun and my virtual reality journalism class at USC, JOVRNALISM. The project won a 2017 Online Journalism Award.

Working with two other journalists, I reported, shot, scripted and edited the video about the Torres Martinez Desert Cahuilla nation.

DIGITAL VIDEOS

I scripted and edited the below videos for Sunset's September 2015 cover story, "The Road to Gold," using Adobe Premiere Pro. The videos are accompaniments to the print story for the online and tablet editions. I also wrote a series of accompanying blog posts.

WEB PRODUCTION

At Washingtonian, I used the WordPress CMS, Photoshop and HTML to produce stories from the print magazine for the website. For the 100 Very Best Restaurants and Cheap Eats cover packages, I spearheaded gathering photo and design assets and data collection to create a finder database. The gallery below shows a sample of the print features and cover packages I produced.

NEWSLETTERS

At Washingtonian, I created six of the magazine's nine weekly newsletters using MailChimp and Photoshop. I coordinated with three editors to turn their written work into subject-specific newsletters on health and fitness, brunch, and food news. I ran A/B tests to test for performance and executed sends. Under my authorship, newsletter open rates increased.
